Statuo
Claimant and Law Firm Portals
Impact at a Glance
5 active settlements running on Statuo
10,000s of claimants served
1,000s of law firms using the platform
0 verification calls needed per payment (down from 1–3 calls per claimant, every time)
The Problem
Claimants and firms in active mass tort settlements had no way to independently check payment status, elect a payment method, or update their own information — every change required calling or emailing the settlement administrator directly.
My Role
Product Manager and UX/UI Designer. I designed and shipped this within Statuo, Garretson's payment disbursement and calculation platform. I managed a development team with biweekly retros/sprint plannings/backlog grooming and shipped to production every other Monday.
Constraints
Sensitive data at scale
The platform holds law firm data, personal information like DOB and SSN, and manages millions of dollars in claimant payments - raising serious compliance and security stakes.
High Stakes Accuracy
The portal had to fully integrate with Statuo's already-built admin side rather than operate as a standalone product.
Multi-layer verification
Every user goes through multiple layers of verification - login, email magic links, OTP, or identity and payment verification so people feel safe putting in their information.
Court-mandated configurability
Every settlement has its own court-mandated requirements for authentication, payment verification, and documentation - rules the platform has to support, never override.
We realized the bigger opportunity wasn't just letting people view and edit their information - it was collecting the documents and information needed throughout a settlement in one place, replacing scattered emails entirely, and becoming the single source of truth the industry didn't have yet.
What I did
I built a self-service portal where claimants and firms log in to elect a payment method, view past payment history, and confirm or update their personal and claim information on their own. Every user is verified through multiple layers of authentication, with strict permission controls so only the right person - with the right role for their firm - can view or change specific information. Any payment method or claim-information change request locks the entire claim until an admin reviews and approves or denies it, so no payment ever goes out based on unverified information. On the admin side, the platform calculates payouts against liens and holdbacks and manages claimant records end to end.
Alternates Considered
A simpler, view-only portal where claimants could see their status but not make changes
The Deciding Line
There are companies that do parts of what Statuo does - but no single company that does it all.

Outcome
We worked closely with the law firms managing each litigation and with their call center agents to understand the problems and friction points they ran into during the existing phone-based process. We had extensive calls with one partner firm who gave us baseline requirements that applied across every litigation - making sure we covered the fundamentals - and then told us everything they wished they'd had, which let us build something firms would actually want, not just something that met the minimum bar. We integrated PandaDoc for e-signature, and the system is built to expand to other e-signature platforms based on each firm's preference.
